
Jack L. Freeman, 73, of West Chester, died early Friday morning, January 2, 2009, at Hospice of Hamilton. Born May 21, 1935, in Mansfield, he was the son of William A. and Viola Bailey Freeman. Dr. Freeman was a 1953 graduate of Madison High School and received his dental degree from The Ohio State University in 1959. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy before returning to Mansfield to open his dental office in 1961 and serving the community for 32 years. In 1993, he moved to Cincinnati to pursue other opportunities in the field of dentistry. He enjoyed cooking, sailing, Ohio State football and mostly, the love of his family and friends. Dr. Freeman was a 1953 graduate of Madison High School and received his dental degree from The Ohio State University in 1959. As an avid Buckeyes fan, he was a member of The Ohio State University chapters of Kappa Sigma fraternity and Psi Omega dental fraternity. He was active in the community, serving on the Mansfield Charter Commission in the early 1980s and on numerous boards and civic organizations. He also served as past Exalted Ruler for the local chapter of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks, past president of the Mansfield Dental Society, and also taught boating safety for the Mansfield Power Squadron. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Mansfield.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Moody Freeman; two daughters, Tracy Chris Tighe of Lexington, KY and Laura Tim Quine of Akron; five grandchildren, Lindsay, Matthew and Dylan Tighe, Meghan David O'Connell and Allie Quine; a sister, Betty Lou Frontz of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in Little Washington Congregational Church with Rev. David Root officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow in Little Washington Cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family in celebrating Jack's life at the Red Fox Tavern, 301 Marion Avenue, beginning at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday afternoon. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Hamilton, 1010 Eaton Avenue, Hamilton, OH 45013-4640.
