
James Henry Graves, 76, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at Wade Park Veteran's Hospital in Cleveland. Born December 1, 1929, in Richland County, he was the son of William and Lillian Scott Graves. He retired in 1969 from the Ohio State Reformatory where he employed as a corrections officer. He was a member of the American Legion Post #16 and loved fishing with his grandson, David Yates. Mr. Graves was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U.S. Marines 1st Marine Division.
He is survived by two sons, James Edward Graves of Spring Hill, Florida, and James Graves Jr., of Westerville; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Sandra and James McElvain of Mansfield, Sonia and Verlin Yates of Bellville, Christina and Brad Glaze of Columbus, and Cheryl Graves of Gahanna; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William Graves and sister, Virginia Colegrove.
Friends may call Friday, December 30, 2005, from 5-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Brian A. Phillips officiating. Military graveside services conducted by Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
