James Harper

James L. Harper, 66, of Mansfield, died Friday morning, June 20, 2008 at his home. Born July 8, 1941 in Mansfield, he was the son of Stanley and Catherine Helbert Harper. Jim worked at Empire Detroit Steel for 30 years and for 18 years at Dublin Metal. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Jim enjoyed gardening, yard work, golf and reading.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jan Casto Harper; six children, Jeff Barb Harper of Willard, Rick Harper of Canada, Jay Kristi Harper of Concord, OH, Lisa Dave Harvey of Medina, Steve Michelle Harper of Erie, PA and Patty Mike Luzader of Hilliard; thirteen grandchildren, James and Candice Harper, Brittany Harper, Kevin and Allie Harper, Josh and Jacob Harper, Michael, Jessica and Eric Harvey, Erin, Simone and Audrey Luzader; stepmother, Carolyn Casto of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Linda Robert Garriott of Mansfield; niece, Lori Rick Wheeler of Mansfield; and a number of other relatives. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Larry Harper on December 24, 2007; and nephew, Jeff Martin.

Friends may call from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Les Vnasdale officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are made to Children's Hospital of Columbus.
