James Edward Harvey, 78, of Mansfield, died Monday evening, March 14, 2005, at Woodlawn Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. He was born June 24, 1926, in Shawnee to James and Edna Osborne Harvey, and graduated from Lucas High School in 1944. He played basketball at Shawnee and Lucas and took great pride in the basketball history of the Harvey family. Jim served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Battle Star, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Ribbon for Japan. He worked 38 years at Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co., from the timekeeping department to risk management. He was Past Master of Charles Hoffman Masonic Lodge #767 and a current member of Venus Lodge #152, F. & A.M., as well as the Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton. Jim is fondly remembered as reliable and stern, and as the father and big brother who was there when he was needed. He was a man of few words, yet there was no doubt of his unwavering affection to family and friends. He enjoyed golfing with his brothers, son, grandson and son-in-law, always working in a 'mulligan' or two. He married Lucille E. on August 21, 1971 and became a more outgoing person, enjoying all that life offered him here and while living in Clearwater.
