James was a veteran of the Army Air Corps serving during World War II. He retired from the Mansfield Reformatory where he worked many years as a corrections officer.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Don) Davis of Pueblo, CO; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Anna Jean Leapley of OH; good friend, Roger Riblet of Bellville, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Lola M. Thoma Leapley; son, Jimmie Leapley; and his parents.
The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will proceed to Mansfield Memorial Park.
