
John S. Adamescu, 81, died Monday evening, October 23, 2006, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He was born in Mansfield, to Joseph and Mary Berarice Adamescu. In his younger years, he was the first boy to sell ice cream on the Mansfield city streets. He was a graduate of St. Peter's High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. In 1948, he married Grace R. Pederson from Philadelphia, PA, who survives him. John retired from the Mansfield Richland County Health Department after 27 ½ years as a sanitarian. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post #9943, life member of Amvets Post #26 and life member of American Legion Post #16.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by three daughters, Carol Stephen Rissler of Bellville, Marilyn Nickles of San Diego, CA, and Dorothy Adamescu of Mansfield; son, Tom Adamescu of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Friends and family may call Thursday, October 26, 2006, from 5-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with additional calling from 9-10 a.m. Military graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Veteran's Home, 3416 S. Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio 44870.
