
John Edward Hoover, 92, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born December 18, 1915 in Mansfield, he was the son of John Henry and Mary McNaul Hoover. He retired as a truck driver and a farmer. John was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He was an outdoorsman who was very community minded. John enjoyed farming, playing cards and checkers, and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Amick Hoover; step-daughter-in-law, Linda Beer; step-children, Harry Rose Arnold of Mt. Gilead, Jane Robert Riggs of Titusville, Florida, and Patsy Al Gildersleeve of The Villages, Florida; step-grandchildren, Donald "Rick" Suzanne Beer, and Melinda K. P.J. Beer Barber; step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren of Bertha Amick Hoover, Naomi Gandert Hoover, and Leona Waveham Hoover; nieces, Margaret Wilbur Hetler Bankey of Bowling Green, and Joyce Hetler Leimbach of Sandusky; nephew, Roger D. Denise Hetler of Whitehouse, Tennessee; numerous cousins; and many lifelong neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lottie Cairns Hoover in 1953; second wife, Naomi Gandert Hoover in 1984; third wife, Leona Wareham Hoover in 1995; stepson Donald J. Linda Beer; and two sisters, Martha Wilbur Hoover Hetler, and Helen Ray Hoover Hetler.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008 at First English Lutheran Church, 53 Park Ave. West, Mansfield, Ohio 44902, conducted by Rev. Cloyd Kress and Rev. Paul Larson. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Windsor Park Cemetery. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of John Hoover.
