

John Wesley Myers Jr., 75, of Mansfield passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Louis Stoke VA Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born July 13, 1942, in Star, Mississippi to the late John Wesley Myers Sr. and Rutha Mae Edwards Myers.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. John retired from Westinghouse Corp. and Marion Steel. He was an avid sports fan and a die hard Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State University Buckeyes follower. Spending time with his family brought him great joy. Driving in his corvette was another favorite pastime.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Issac (Teri) Horton of Louisville, KY, Toya (James) Jackson of Noblesville, IN, Areta (Charles) Williams of Newnan, GA, and Genice (James) Johnston of Pendleton, IN; ten grandchildren, Anthony Hicks, Latoya Vanessa Edwards, Kymarious Jackson, Andre (Ai) Thomas, Montias Jackson, Shaipre Wellington, Kevin Brown, Atera Williams, Aliyyah Jackson, and Aayanah Jackson; and four great-grandchildren, Julian Wellington, Alejandro Thomas, Caden Lloyd and Mayilah Wellington. John is also survived by three siblings, Lora (Willie E.) Troutman of Marion, OH, Christine "Stine" (Daris) Brinson of Mt. Olive, MS and Maxine Thomas of Marion, OH; special niece, Patricia (James Jr.) Montgomery; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Jones Myers on October 8, 2015; his parents; and step mother, Madora Myers.
The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2017, in the New Community Temple Church of God in Christ, 338 Harker St., Mansfield. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Henry J. Bradley Jr. will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the church. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Mansfield Cemetery with military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
