
John B. Parr, 57, of Mansfield died in his home early Wednesday, November 15, 2000. Mr. Parr was a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, currently retired, having served over 25 years combined active service and reserve duty. His most recent active assignment in the late 1970's was as supply officer aboard the USS Parsons in the Vietnam conflict.
Upon his retirement from the Navy, Mr. Parr returned to Mansfield where he lived for over twenty years. He was a very active member of the local AA community for over two decades. His interests were eclectic, and his true loves were cars and motorcycles. At the time of his death Mr. Parr worked for Petty's Hallmark stores and ran his own small business as John Parr the Pie Man. Mr. Parr was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and Bowling Green State University, and he received an MBA from Golden State University in San Francisco.
Mr. Parr was the son of the late Bernard & Ella Parr of Mansfield. He is survived by his brother, David Parr of Superior, WI; his sister, Virginia Parr Steadman of Cincinnati. He had five nieces and nephews whom he considered his close family, Sarah Diwan of Chicago, David Lickey of Portland, OR, Rachel Clark of Cincinnati and Thomas and John Daniel Parr of Superior.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Monday, November 20, 2000 at 12:00 p.m. with services following at 1:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. Dr. Wray C. Smith.
