Joseph Scherer

Joseph E. Scherer, 69, of Bellville, OH died Thursday morning September 30, 2004 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following an illness. Born in Fremont, OH on July 28, 1935, he was the son of Ernest and Clara Karle Scherer. After 30 years of service, he retired from the Army Air National Guard in 1984, and in January 1998, from the Mansfield Correctional Institution. He was a member of the Order of the Owls Lodge #1152, Mansfield, the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #341, Mansfield, and the Amvets #43, Bellville.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Blank Scherer; sons and daughters-in-law Ted and Drita Scherer of Mansfield, OH, Joseph Scherer, Jr. of Chino Valley, AZ, and David and Dana Scherer of Mansfield, OH; daughter Holly Briggs of Oak Harbor, OH; nine grandchildren, Hans, Lance, Aja, Elyse, Brenden, Jason, Josh, Keith, and Annie; one great grandson, Kadon; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Louise and Larry Sickmiller of Toledo, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Timothy Scherer.

Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday October 3, 2004. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1p.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Wray C. Smith officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
