
Joseph H. Wilhelm, 86, of Lexington died Thursday afternoon, November 27, 2003 at Lexington Court Care Center after an extended illness. Mr. Wilhelm was born April 2, 1917 in Mansfield, Ohio living in the area all of his life. He was a barber, retiring from Joe's Barber Shop after 55 years. He also taught barbering at O.S.R. for 6 years. He attended First Alliance Church and was a member of the Lexington Area Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed traveling with club members. Mr. Wilhelm was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army for over four years in Central Europe, Rome, Arne, Rhineland, Naples, Faggia, Algeria, French Morocco, Southern France, Sicily and Tunisia. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, Croix de Guere with Palm and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Martha Winkler Wilhelm; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judi Balyeat of Lexington and Nicolette & David Boodey of Lakeville, Illinois; two granddaughters, Erin Boodey of Lakeville, Illinois and Amber Boodey Gnann of Mt. Dora, Florida; a sister and brother-in-law, Irene & Fred Culler of Mansfield; and three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Sr. & Johanna Vogel Wilhelm; an infant son, Joel Frederick Wilhelm; and a brother, Nicholas Wilhelm Jr.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors one hour prior to funeral services to be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. James Cheatham. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation Inc., 1501 NW 9 Ave, Bop Hope Road, Miami, Florida 33136-1494 or MedCentral Hospice.
