
Lawrence E. 'Jack or Larry' Carr, 77, Of Mansfield, died Monday, February 5, 2007, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born May 29, 1929, in Wooster, he was the son of Edward Russell and Beulah Madge LeMasters Carr and moved to Mansfield at age 3. He married Christine Schwarz Carr on April 16, 1949, and also assisted her with her Watkins' business. Mr. Carr was a charter member of the 179th Air National Guard Unit, retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1980 after 33 years of service. While in the Guard, he graduated from the NCO Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee. He served as the representative for the Academy's 23rd Chapter, and was on its Board of Directors and past president. Mr. Carr helped start the Shadow Flight for retirees and served as president for many years. He had worked at Frey Scientific, Hartman Electric, drove for Embarq and sold glass block at county fairs. He was director of the Richland County Disaster Preparedness services for Mansfield and volunteered at the Red Cross where he taught first aid and was an EMT. A community minded person, Larry was a volunteer sheriff deputy, volunteer Franklin Twp. Fire Dept. EMT, Past President of Madison Twp. Firefighters Auxiliary, Boy Scout leader of Troop #109 and helped with Troop #508 in Pavonia, was District Scout Commissioner for Richland County, having received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a life member of Amvets Post #26, Moose Lodge in Crestline and A.A.R.P. Chapter 0718. In 1983, along with his wife and brother-in-law, John Schwarz among others, he started the North End Reunion, inviting everyone who lived in the district or attended Bowman Street School before 1950. This event has been a great success and is still going strong meeting every 2 years. He and his wife traveled to all 50 states, Germany and London.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Carr; four children, Leslie Carr and his companion, Michelle of Mansfield, Carol Martin Thompson of North Ridgeville, Cathy Roth of Hiram, GA and Lee Chris Carr of Mt. Gilead; grandchildren, Debra Thompson, Lazarus Roth and Corrine Nedrow; and brother, Russell Norene Carr of Howard. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 7 from 3-8 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Military graveside services conducted by the Air National Guard will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
