
Lawrence Richard Popp, 85, of Mansfield, died March 17, 2008 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He went to be with his Lord early Monday morning surrounded by his family. Born March 6, 1923 in Portland, OR, he was the son of Joseph and Katherine Goettle Popp. He was an active member of the Illinois Avenue Apostolic Christian Church and enjoyed singing in the choir in his earlier years. A man with a servant's heart, he never said no to anyone asking for help. He retired as a carpenter, specializing in home building and remodeling and was formerly the Superintendent of Maintenance at the Apostolic Christian Church Retirement Center. The delight of his grandchildren's hearts, he was a fun loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family. Lawrence was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a medic. On November 12, 1944, he married the love of his life, Viola Irene Meister and together they shared 63 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Gaylene Ann Gus Peter of Mansfield, Stan W. Barb Popp of Lexington and Joy Lynn Steve Boliantz of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Lisa Weidner, Troy Peter, Jenny Justin Brandt, Amy Popp, Michelle Adrian Webel, Sheryl Josh Getz; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Erna Pamer of Portland, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Kristi Boliantz, parents, six brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 19 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the Apostolic Christian Church, 84 N. Illinois Avenue, conducted by Mike Baumann. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
