Lederick R. “Doug” Cockrell, 53, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Born August 24, 1969 in Ethelsville, Alabama, he was the son of Johnnie and Gatha (Minard) Cockrell.
Lederick worked as a chef and loved to play dominoes, bonfires, bar-b-ques and Michael Jordon. He enjoyed watching Naked and Afraid on television and hunting for B.A.T.’s. His favorite color was purple, was a great ad-libber to music lyrics and loved Chevy automobiles.
Lederick was the patriarch of the family – a man they could all confide in. He was the best father of all and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was very unique, tough as nails and an outspoken person whose presence will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Darlene (Davis) Cockrell; his children, Tierra (Andrew) Davis, Laderrikka Cockrell, Najee (Candie) Cockrell, Sr., Darj’a Davis and Darco Davis; special daughter, Kalug Luckie; his grandchildren, Lakhira Cockrell, Lakhera Robinson, Andrais Lawrence, Jr., Najee Cockrell, Jr., Nayajee Cockrell, Najiah Holland, Nelina Cockrell, Tiwan Hughes, Tijzan Davis, Tre’Vien Starks, Darco Davis, Jr., Kyeona Myers, La’Nya Davis, Zionna Martin, JaiMier Harper and JaiSaun Harper; special grandchildren, Davon Smith, Amarie Minard and Anyah Minard; his brothers, Travis, Mike and Dennis; his sister, Jessica Wade; his cousin, Baybay (Daron); a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other cousins; and his mother-in-law, Eva Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Nautica Davis and Angelo Dyke; his brother, Torrey Cockrell; and special friend, Charles Logan.
A gathering for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Wappner Cremation Center, 1327 Ashland Road, Mansfield, OH 44905.
