Lolita Jane Miller, 79, of Palm Springs, California died January 2, 2003 as a result of complications from an accidental fall. Mrs. Miller was born June 19, 1923 to Merrill and Earl Munyon in Portsmouth, Ohio. After the death of her father from pneumonia, her mother married Lawrence F. Corn in 1936, a prominent steelworker and labor union leader in Portsmouth and moved to Mansfield, Ohio shortly thereafter. It was in Mansfield that she met her husband to be, Frank E. Miller, Jr., to whom she was married for 46 years. Jane was not only a loving wife and mother, but she also had an active and successful career with the government, spanning more than 30 years. She worked with the Internal Revenue Service in Mansfield and then with the Social Security Administration in Akron after moving to Kent, Ohio in 1959. She enjoyed many activities including gardening and boating with her family. Always having a strong desire to study history and having an interest in writing, she attended evening classes at Akron University where she was a premier student. Her professional career led to Palm Springs, California where she and Frank moved in 1976. They became active members of the Palm Springs Shrine Club, of which Frank was President in 1986. Jane was also active in the Palm Springs Women's Club. Upon her retirement in 1988, Jane focused her attention on the care and support of Frank until his death in 1993. Jane once again pursued her interests in current events and history. Her physical activities became limited due to orthopedic problems and earlier in 2002 she moved into a retirement home, where she became a leader of activities, a motivator an a pillar of support for the other residents until her untimely death. She will be missed by her family and by those who benefited from her compassion.
Jane is survived by her son, Michael L. Miller, D.O. at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas; grandson, Matthew D. Miller, a junior at Southern Methodist University in Dallas; daughter-in-law, Marcia W. Miller; and sisters-in-law, Pat Munyon and Betty Miller and several nieces and nephew.
