Born October 16, 1932, in Fort Gay, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Elka and Myrtle (Holt) Vinson. Martha remained faithful to her roots and cheered on every West Virginia sports team. She enjoyed listening to Big Band music. Independent her entire life and possessing an amazing sense of direction, she would drive anywhere without a map. She made several cross-country trips by herself sometimes taking her favorite canine companion, Sandy.
Martha had a kind and caring heart and never met a stranger. She was hardworking and volunteered her time and talents at many opportunities. Martha was devoted to her family and was devoted to her grandchildren. She had special activities she shared with each one of her children. Martha enjoyed gardening, and watching the planets and stars with her son, Bob. Cooking and roller-skating with her daughter, Kathy, created some great memories. She was not only his biggest fan, but also acted as recorder for Gary’s sports teams. She could be found with a bag of popcorn in hand during any number of sporting events. Martha was an animal lover and had many cats and dogs to share her love with over the years.
Martha is survived by three children, Bob (Desiree) Cardwell, Gary (Lisa) Cardwell and Kathy (Bob) Shafer; four grandchildren, Chris (Taylor) Schraedly, Colin (Kelsey) Cardwell, Cory (Aubrey) Cardwell and Nathan (Jessica) Clark; one brother, L.K. Vinson; a niece, Jo (Brad) Moore; and a nephew, Eric Vinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobbie Cardwell.
