Mary McCullough

Mary Magdalene McCullough, 85, of Mansfield, died Thursday, March 31, 2005. Affectionately known as 'Maggie', she was born September 8, 1919, in Margaret, Alabama, she came to Mansfield in 1945. She worked at Westinghouse but later retired from Essex Wire in Lexington. She was a charter member under the late L.G. Maddox of Maddox Memorial C.O.G.I.C. for over 60 years where Maggie was a member of the Mother Board. She was an avid fisherman, loved to crochet and make quilts. She loved to sing and play the piano so that she could praise and worship her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Maggie was a gardener and loved beautiful flowers. She had a love and heart for underprivileged people, she paid special attention to those overseas in countries, such as Haiti, British Honduras and Africa.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice Faye Dilliard Coleman of Mansfield, Ozella Miller of Tuscaloosa, AL; son, Capt. Richard Lee Brown of Sumter, South Carolina; sister, Bernease Moton of Mansfield; six grandsons, Harold A. Dorsey II of Columbus, Michael L. Sherry Dorsey of Mansfield, John Mosley Dorsey, Jr. of Memphis, TN, Dr. Tyrone A. Brown of Brooklyn, NY, Randy Reeves of Memphis, TN, and Terry Allen Arbenise Melton of Mansfield; two granddaughters, Michelle Marie Dorsey of Columbus and Denise N. Carlos Jones of Columbia, SC; six great-grandsons; ten great-granddaughters; two great-great grandsons; and three great-great granddaughters. Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Callie Hawkins; two sons, William and Sammy Lee Brown; husband, Joseph McCullough; and five brothers, Hilliard Hawkins, Nathaniel Hawkins, Adolph Hawkins, Alexander Hawkins, and Leroy Hawkins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Memorial Church of God in Christ, officiated by Pastor Martina Goines of Witnessing for Jesus. Friends may call at the church from 1-2 p.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. The family will receive guests at 347 S. Trimble Rd.
