
Mary Elizabeth Hurlburt Metcalf, 77, of Mansfield, died Tuesday June 28, 2005 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness. Born May 20, 1928 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Elza and Esther Schaefer Hurlburt. She was a member of the Woodville Grace Brethren Church since 1959. Mrs. Metcalf taught Ladies Bible Study on Tuesdays, was a member of Madison AARP, and the Harpcrest Community Center. She enjoyed making macramé chairs, decorating cakes, and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond E. Metcalf, whom she married February 14, 1948; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy E. and Stella Metcalf of Ashland, and Richard A. and Barbara Metcalf of Lexington; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet M. and Leonard Smith of Lucas; nine grandchildren, Jama Chris Johnson, Jeremy Jackie Metcalf, Cory Metcalf, Cara Mike Geib, Elizabeth Metcalf, Andrew Metcalf, Jennifer Mike Graven, Kevin Smith, and Laura Jeffrey Markley; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Erma Adams of Florida; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Elaine Hurlburt, and Paul and Marciene Hurlburt all of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Leroy Hurlburt.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday June 30, 2005 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Gene Witzky and Pastor Steve Kern officiating. Burial will follow in Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodville Grace Brethren Church.
