
Melba B. Owens died peacefully of natural causes on Tuesday morning, February 16, 2010. She was born May 9, 1915 to Mark and Altonia Montague in Alliance, Ohio. Melba married Raymond E. Owens in 1942 and moved from Columbus to Mansfield in 1945.
Melba will be remembered foremost as a devoted wife to Ray and mother to their three sons. She also pursued an active career in real estate sales for over thirty years. Following retirement both Melba and Ray served as volunteers at MedCentral Hospital for many years. Ray and Melba were members of the First Presbyterian Church.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; two brothers, Ronald Montague and Jack Montague of Alliance, Ohio; and most recently by her daughter-in-law, Sandy Owens, wife of Jeffry Owens. She is survived by her sister, Donna Blue of Urbana, Ohio. Other surviving relatives include son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Susan Owens; son, Jeffry Owens; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Debbie Owens. Four grandchildren, Bryan Owens, Bradley Owens, Roxanne Owens Kennedy and Mark Owens plus seven great-grandchildren were Melba's legacy.
Funeral services will be held at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road Friday, February 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Dennis R. Allison will officiate. Interment will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to MedCentral Hospice or the First Presbyterian Church.
