
Melvin L. Schmid, Jr., 75, of Lexington, died Monday evening, July 11, 2005, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a long illness. Born February 3, 1930, in Mansfield, he was the son of Melvin L. Sr. and Lydia E. Long Schmid. He was self employed as a building contractor and loved his work. Melvin enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Hallabrin Schmid; son and daughter-in-law, Ron A. and Gay Schmid of Mt. Gilead; two granddaughters, Mary Doup and Terra Doup; a great-grandson, Logan Lundquist; brother, William E. Schmid of Mansfield; three sisters, Marjorie Traxler of Mansfield, Marcella Morton of Key West, Florida, and Patricia Hill of Colorado; and numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no calling hours or services observed at this time, per Mel's wishes. Mel will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors assisted the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
