
Michael A. Bittman, Sr., 85, of Mansfield, died Saturday morning, February 26, 2005, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. Born July 3, 1919, in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Frank and Elisabeth Yanko Bittman. Mike retired from Empire Reeves and also worked as a bricklayer. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and life member of the International Bricklayer's Union. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during WWII in Africa and Europe and was awarded 8 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. Jr. and Ann Bittman of Mansfield; a daughter, Patricia Bittman of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Erin, Meagan and Michael D. Bittman, all of Mansfield; great-granddaughter, Julia; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine on February 22, 2005, brother, Frank and sisters, Mary and Elizabeth.
Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Friends may call at the church from 12-1 p.m. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or MedCentral Hospice. The Diamond Street home of Wappner Funeral Directors assisted the family with arrangements.
