
Nicholas Christus, 55, of Mansfield died early Friday morning, October 24, 2003 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. He was born December 10, 1947 in Niagara Falls, New York to George and Helen Lambros Christus. He was a Mansfield area resident the past 18 years. Nicholas retired from Ameritech-SBC in Akron and now employed at AutoZone on Park Avenue West. He was a member of McElroy Road Church of Christ where he served as Deacon and a youth director for many years. He loved to run, completing the Cleveland Marathon in 1991 and several triathlons. Nicholas was an Olympic torchbearer for the 2002 Olympics. He was an avid race fan, loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Moore Christus; a son, Matthew Peter Christus of Concord, North Carolina; daughter, Amy Nicole Christus of Mansfield; a grandson, Nicholas Kaleb Christus; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles H. and Jeanne Christus of Palm Coast, Florida; a sister, Joanna Christus of Atlanta, Georgia; and three nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Jason Abrams.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Sunday, October 26 from 2-5 p.m. Funeral services, conducted by Dan Nichols will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at McElroy Road Church of Christ. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Caesarea Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Fund at McElroy Road Church of Christ.
