

Norma E. Pfeifer, 81, of Mansfield, died Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Hospice of North Central Ohio. Norma was born November 28, 1929 in Mansfield, Ohio to Stanley and Helen (Eilenfeld) Balckstone. She graduated in 1947 from Mansfield Senior High School. Since then she was on the planning committee for almost all class reunions and was most recently the class secretary. After graduation from high school, Norma worked in the Purchasing Department at the Ohio Brass Company, later at Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, and most recently, as Office Manager for the Myron DeLaney Agency for State Farm Insurance, retiring in 1993. She was formerly very active in Heritage Trails Girl Scout Council, serving in many capacities from Troop Leader to Trainer to Council Cookie Chairman. Norma has been an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for 40 years, having served on various committees. She was also a Sunday school teacher, Bible School Director, member of Women of Holy Trinity, a member of Senior Choir for many years, and cooked for special dinner events at the church. She loved her church and her church family. Norma was a member of Royal Court #42 Order of the Amaranth and the Ladies Shrine Club. She was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship from the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. Norma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included traveling, boating, reading, cooking, and flower gardening. She was the Men’s Garden Club Award Winner in 2002. She was a classy lady. In Norma and Carl’s eighteen years of marriage, they traveled to Europe and Africa 11 times. They were on many cruises including the Caribbean Islands, Panama Canal, South America, Alaska, the Greek Isles, Turkey, the Holland Waterways, and a favorite, the Norwegian Coastal Voyage. The spent their winters in Myrtle Beach, SC, and their summers at their boathouse on Sandusky Bay.
She is survived by her loving husband, Carl E. Pfeifer to whom she married on August 7, 1993. Son and daughter-in-law, Mark (Shelley) Sisco; son-in-law, Daniel (Corrie) Hergatt; grandchildren, Stephan (Jennifer) Hergatt, Lisa Hergatt (Robert) Sizelove, Ryan (fiancé, Elizabeth) Hergatt, Jennifer Hergatt, and Cayla Starlin; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Jack) Palmer; sister-in-law, Marjorie Pfeifer Hail; nieces, Diane (Bill) Sites, Joyce (Randy) Dudley, Carla (Tom) Eisenloffel; nephew, Gregory L. Hail; numerous great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and cousins and their families; step granddaughters, Chelsea Genter and Alese Genter; a step great-grandson; and dear friends, Casey Burns, Mildred O’Neill, and Linda Arnold. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Charles F. Sisco in 1990, and a daughter, Laurie Sisco Hergatt in 1994.
Friends may call Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 525 W. Cook Rd., Mansfield, conducted by Rev. Dr. Pentti Maki. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (Endowment Fund), 525 W. Cook Rd., Mansfield, Ohio 44907 or Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Dr., Ashland, Ohio 44805, and left at the funeral home.
