

Oliver L. Chorpening, 85, 1835 Lexington Springmill Rd. died Tuesday morning April 24, 2001 at Good Shepard Nursing Home of Ashland following an extended illness. Mr. Chorpening was born May 18, 1915 in Ruggles, Ohio residing in the Mansfield area since 1984. Mr. Chorpening was a Professor of Education at Ashland University and a veteran of the United States Army being stationed in the South Pacific for four years serving during World War II. He was a former member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland and currently attended First United Methodist Church in Mansfield and Corner Stone Grace Brethren. Mr. Chorpening was a former member of Mansfield Kiwanis and The Mansfield Art Center and enjoyed painting.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Linda Chorpening of Ashland, Ohio; and Marshall and Robin Chorpening of Athens, Ohio; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Paul Chorpening of Ashland, Ohio and one sister, Joanne Chorpening of Ashland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Mildred Akers Chorpening; his wife, Helen Chorpening; one sister, Phyllis Burgess; and one brother, Robert Chorpening.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors one hour prior to funeral services which will be held on Friday April 27, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. conducted by Pastor Gene E. Witzky. Burial will be held in Ashland County Memorial Park.
