
Pearl Gene Cox, 97, of Davis Road, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009, in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital after a brief illness. She was born April 15, 1912, in Elliott County, Kentucky, to Robert Kinster and Spicie Kinster Hunter. She lived in the Mansfield area for 72 years. Her hobbies were gardening and flowers. Pearl enjoyed her Red Hat parties, Kingwood Center, shelling at Sanibel and her winters in Florida with her husband. She was known for honesty and love of her family and was the true matriarch. To her delight, her grandchildren named her "GG".
She is survived by four sons and their spouses, Bernie Cheryl Cox, Billy Dee Cox, all of Mansfield, Roger Janet Cox of Warren and Leonard Sandy Cox, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, FL; a daughter, Wanda Winters of Mansfield; twenty-one grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a special niece, Joy Sheppard; two sisters, Emogene Tackett and Ruby Donahue; and one brother, Willis Hunter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Leonard Cox, Sr.; parents, Spicie Hunter, Jeff Hunter and Robert Kinster; son, Ronald Cox; daughter-in-law, Marcia Cox; sons-in-law, Ronald Lee Kulka and H. Bruce Winters; a brother, Willard Hunter; and sister, Bertha Bowser.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Thomas McFadden will be officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
