
Petros Stavridis, 88, of Mansfield, died Sunday, March 27, 2011, at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Born June 6, 1922, in Kastoria, Greece, he was the son of Stavros and Soultana Stavridis. He was very proud to have served in the Greek Army for three years during the Greek Civil War. He emigrated to the United States in 1966 and obtained United States citizenship in 1973. Along with his brother, Angelo George, Petros was the co-owner of Coney Island for 34 years. A member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, he also served on the church council. Petros had worked as a farmer and a carpenter and enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading. He was a gentle soul and a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Vasiliki Filiadis; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Theodoros Liavas of Mansfield; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Nick Stavridis and Lisa Violi of Phoenix, Arizona; a granddaughter, Vicky Damian Boyd of Caledonia; a great granddaughter, Deanna Theodora Boyd; a brother, James George of Mansfield; and a sister, Elefteria Karayiannis of Greece. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Angelo George, George Stavridis, Thomas Stavridis and Nikolaos Stavridis; and a sister, Alexandra Karayiannis.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield where Trisagion services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be said at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2011, at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church by Father Michael Ellis. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church.
