

Richard J. Meister, 78, of Mansfield, died Sunday morning November 7, 2004 after a brief illness. Born August 22, 1926 in Mansfield, he was the son of John and Catherine Schad Meister. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Port Clinton, where he served as Postmaster. Mr. Meister was a member of the Ontario United Methodist Church, the Amvets Post 26, the American Legion 16, and the Frank Marquis Lodge # 690 F. & A. M and Baku Grotto. He was also a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. After retirement, Richard spent many winters in Winterhaven, Florida, watching his beloved Cleveland Indians at their spring training camp. He most enjoyed spending time with his family that he loved deeply. Richard Also loved working with his hands on carpentry projects.
Survivors include one son, Robert A. and Suzanne P. Meister of Lexington; one daughter, Jayne and Ron Bey of Dayton; five grandchildren, Nkosi Bey, Tariq Bey, Nadia Bey, Alexandria Meister, and Johnna Meister; three brothers, Albert and Helen Meister of Mansfield, Walter Meister of Florida, and Jim and Shirley Meister of Mansfield; two sisters, Viola and Lawrence Popp and Barb Desterhaft, all of Mansfield; and many loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, John Ross Meister; three brothers, Jacob, Robert and Donald Meister; and two sisters, Elizabeth Miller and Ruth Desterhaft.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday November 9, 2004 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday November 10 at the funeral home with Dr. Wray C. Smith officiating. Military graveside services will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
