

Dick was born September 10, 1930 in Muskingum County, Ohio, to the late William Carl and Anna (Bissett) Porter. He graduated from Hopewell Rural High School, Muskingum County, Ohio in 1948. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education, a Master's Degree in Education from Ohio University and a Specialist Degree in Supervision and Administration from Bowling Green State University. He worked 44 years in educational programs.
Dick served two terms, 1972-1979 as Mayor of Mansfield. He was long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Dick officiated high school basketball 24 years and high school football 12 years. He was the play-by-play sports announcer for several years for Mansfield WCLW Radio. He was co-founder of Mohican School in the Out-of-Doors and member of the board for 40 years. He was a partner in the development and steering of Southwest Little League-Sterkel Fields. He was a member of Mansfield Noon Optimist Club since September of 1980 and a life member of Venus Lodge #0152.
Dick married his loving wife, Joan (Dozer) Porter and they celebrated 65 years of marriage and she survives him. He is also survived by one daughter, Kim Arron; one son, Jay Porter and very special daughter-in-law, Connie Porter; six grandchildren, Ashley (Rob) Macdonald, Tyson (Lyndsey) Porter, Trent (Melissa) Porter, Travis (Chelsea) Porter, Casey (Michael) Britton and Lindsay (Ralph) Smith; six great grandchildren, Sydnee Utt, Noah Utt, Elijah Utt, Natalia Macdonald, Adam Britton and Alex Britton; and brother, Frank Porter.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a great grandchild, Ethan Lucas Utt.
In honoring Dick's wishes, cremation will be held and there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mansfield Noon Optimist Club or the St. Paul Lutheran Church Altar Fund. The Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to be serving his family.
