

A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country from 1948 to 1951. He served as longtime Water Superintendent for Ontario. From there, he went on to Civil Engineering, working for McCoy and Associates as a Project Engineer. He was of many talents and his carpentry was perfection, making beautiful furniture and cabinets. He was an outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting. He was a great storyteller. He remained true to the friends he grew up with and above all, he enjoyed being with his family. Through all of his illness, he remained positive and greeted each day with a smile.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joan (Sperzel) Barrett whom he married in 1955; a son, Bob (Robin) Barrett; a daughter, Jennifer Barrett; three sisters, Beverly (Charles) Bauer, Marylou Householder and Carole (Daryl) Haag; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman McNeely, Jack Barrett and William Barrett.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors conducted by Rev. Bruce Haapalainen. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
