
Robert George Coker of Mansfield died Monday, September 6, 2010 at his home. Born in Granville, West Virginia, he was the son of Nicholas and Susan Elleck Coker. He served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in the 2nd Division 38th Infantry Regiment serving in Korea. He graduated from West Virginia University with a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree. Robert was a teacher and administrator in Mansfield City and Madison schools for 38 years. He was a member of the Ohio Elementary Principal Association, the National Middle School Association, University Club, the First Congregational Church, and the Masonic Lodge, Venus Lodge 152. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Robert had a passion for students and education. He was widely known for his sense of humor and friendship to many. Bob's courage and humor during this time of ultimate challenge inspired all who knew him. Robert 'Bob' Coker was a man who truly enjoyed other people. His love of laughter and lightness was that quality of joy that was shared with all of his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Beyer Coker; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Sue and Jeff Hoffer; son, Robert Coker, Jr. and his fiancée April Kern; brother-in-law, Don and Laurie Beyer; granddaughter, Nicole; step grandson, Jesse; granddaughter, Jenna; grandson, Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Zyaire; nieces, Keli Beyer and Kalindi Ryan Heslop. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home conducted by Rev. Tony Minear and Rev. David Hartzfeld. Military graveside services conducted by the Richland County Joint Burial Detail will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
