
Robert Dean Knackstedt, 72, of Elgin, Illinois, died Friday, September 10, 2010 in Elgin. Born March 16, 1938 in Mansfield, he was the son of George J. and Kathryn F. Meyering Knackstedt. A varsity cheerleader at Mansfield Senior High School, he worked at Siegenthalers Shoes right out of high school. After serving in the Army, Robert moved to Chicago and worked at Sak's 5th Ave and Tishman Construction. In later years, he also painted houses. An avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, Robert enjoyed music, and his animals, and eating Jones Potato Chips.
He is survived by his sisters-in-law, Marge Knackstedt and Florence Knackstedt, both of Mansfield; nieces and nephews, Helen Sackman of Mansfield, James Knackstedt of Mansfield, Richard Knackstedt of Troy, Linda Knackstedt of Mansfield, Paul Knackstedt of Lexington, Ruthann Shears of Mansfield, Greg Knackstedt of Columbus, Gary Knackstedt of Columbus, Janice Scott of Mansfield, Lee Ann Russell of Mansfield, and Keith Coleman of Mansfield; numerous great nieces and nephews; and close friend, Kathy Hebel of Elgin, Illinois. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbur, Kenneth, Glennon, and George; sisters, Kathryn Coleman and Dolores Knackstedt; special friend, Donald Garrison; and nephew, William Knackstedt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, conducted by Rector Emeritus David S. Sipes. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family.
