

Robert E. Mangan, 71, of Mansfield, died Saturday, June 17, 2000 in his home after a nearly two year long illness. He was lovingly cared for by his wife Barbara, a new friend Jean Henry and his family. The support of all the hospice workers is deeply appreciated by the family.
He was born April 5, 1929 in Kokomo, Indiana to Roscoe and Mary Mangan along with his identical twin brother Bill. Mr. Mangan was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1947 and lived in Mansfield all of his life. He was the only three time winner of the Golden Gloves for boxing at Mansfield Senior. He was known as 'Big Poison'. He served in Tokyo, Japan with his brother Bill in the U.S. Army under General MacArthur.
Robert Mangan wore many hats during his 71 years. He owned Mangan's Hardware Stores and the Top Spot Restaurant. He worked as a mail carrier, a Deputy Sheriff, and a truck driver for Dearman Transportation. He was an investigator for the Welfare Department, as well as a Juvenile Probation Officer, Adult Probation Officer and Bailiff for Mansfield Municipal Courts. He also owned Fact Finders Security with his brother Bill. He always worked hard for his family. He was a member of Crossroads Community Church and more importantly knew Jesus Christ as his Savior.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Mangan; his identical twin brother, Bill Mangan; a sister-n-law; Katie Karbula Mangan who cared for him to the end, his two sons; David & Robb Mangan, his daughters; Nancy Fox & Jenny Morris, two step-sons; Kurt & Jeff Armstrong, daughters and sons-in-law; Debbie Mangan, Annette Mangan, Jeff Morris, Pam and Kim Armstrong. He had eleven grandchildren who will miss him greatly; Jenny & Carrie Fox, A.J.& David Mangan, Jordy, Jaime, Josie and Jace Morris, Kyle & Ryan Armstrong, and Cheyanne Armstrong. His son Robb and his wife Annette are expecting a new grandchild which pleased Grandpa Bob greatly. He is also survived by nieces Lori Trumbo of Utah, Mary Miller of Cape Coral, Florida, Linda Frizzell Hissam of Fort Myers, Florida, Jennifer Frizzell Baumler and Ann Frizzell Dunlap of Phoenix, Arizona and other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
If Bob could give a message to surviving men it would be to encourage them to have a PSA blood test for prostate done yearly.
Along with wearing many hats in his life his family and friends had many nicknames for him. He was affectionately known as Lawn Bob, Rapid Robert, Daddy Bob, Roberto and Bobby. If you did not know him you missed a great guy.
Friends may call the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors on Monday June 19, 2000 from 3-5 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday June 20, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. conducted by his Pastor Tim Armstrong. Burial will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park where military services will be held. Contributions may be made in care of Crossroads Community Church.
