
Robert W. Marsh, Jr., 59, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at MedCentral Mansfield. Born August 6, 1949, in Mansfield, he was the son of Robert W. and Nancy Lambert Marsh. He retired after 20 years of service with the United States Army serving two tours of duty in Vietnam as a tank commander. During his military career, he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, four Overseas Service Bars, the Bronze Stat Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, Army Achievement Medal, Drivers Badge, Army Commendation Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster and two Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbons. Following his retirement from the Army, which he loved, he worked for the City of Mansfield in the Water Repair Department for 8 years and was known as "Sergeant Marsh" by his fellow co-workers. He was a NASCAR fan having gone to Mansfield Raceway to watch the races, and loved being outdoors doing yard work and golfing, but mostly loved being around his grandchildren, who were the "Apple of his Eye".
Surviving are his wife, Sandra Converse Marsh; one son, Robert W. Marsh, III of North Carolina; three daughters, Bobbie Lynn Marsh of North Carolina, Kimberly Anthony Spencer and Kelly Todd Blankenship all of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, including Shane and Shelby Gibson of Mansfield and Mickey and Myla Blankenship of Mansfield; two sisters, Sharon John Deel and Billie Bob Hiles all of Mansfield; brother-in-law, Michael Harper; two aunts, Ada Lambert and Janie Wallace both of Bucyrus; four nephews; special friend, Greg Holmes; many other friends and special friends at Mr. P's. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, OH 44902. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2009, at the funeral home conducted by his good friend, Richard Hoffman. Burial will follow in Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. Friends may also call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Friday.
