Ronald served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a proud member of the VFW. He worked for AK Steel and later retired from Rolls-Royce.
Ronald was a kind and determined man who spoke his mind and always looked out for others. He had a gift for conversation—able to talk with anyone and leave them better for it. He often shared fond memories of growing up on the farm with his siblings, stories that reflected his deep roots and love of family.
He found his greatest joy outdoors—whether hunting for ginseng or mushrooms, tracking turkey or deer, or fishing with Tim. Some of his favorite moments were the quiet ones, sitting with Nancy and Tom watching their horse, Jared, at their cottage. Ronald also loved cooking, and his baked beans were a family favorite. Above all, he cherished bringing his family together.
Ronald is survived by his daughters, Shannon Branham, Tonya Swanger, and Nichole Swanger; six grandchildren, Joshua (Samantha) Branham, Shelby (Jayce Geer) Branham, Ashley (Max) Lepp, Skyler (Reece Scurlock) Branham, Katie (Tommy) Branham, and Cody Swanger; five great grandchildren, Milah Jo Sawyer, Georgie Lynn, Berkeley Blake, Brooklyn Grace, and Stetson Joshua; three sisters, Nancy Robinson, Carol Deems and Betty West (Bill); sister-in-law, Erma Swanger; numerous nieces and nephews, including one close nephew, Justin Duncan, and one close niece, Judy Crose; and other dear friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 48 years, Shirley D. (Duncan) Swanger; two brothers-in-law, Robert Robinson and Robert Deems; seven siblings, Richard Swanger, Charles Swanger, Kenneth Swanger, Arthur Swanger, Robert Swanger, Helen Swanger, and Floyd Swanger; good friend , Bill; and his dogs, Mutly, Millie, Petey, and Annie.
