

Rose Anna Schramm (nee Nemeth), 90, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2015 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Ashland, Ohio, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born May 11, 1925 in Szombathely, Hungary.
Rose was a loving mother and a rare woman. She was hard-working, generous, and honorable. She came to the United States in 1956 as a political refugee. She survived the tyrannies of Europe and prospered in the United States. She loved America and the character of her people. She admired their many virtues, including their love of freedom, their courage, and the friendship they readily offered. She was most proud of having become an American citizen in 1963. She thrived in this country by owning a Hungarian restaurant in Los Angeles for over thirty years. She was a talented cook, well-known for her apple strudel and other Hungarian pastries.
Survivors include a son, Peter W. Schramm (Sally) of Ashland, Ohio, and a daughter, Marta Batche (Leonard) of Campobello, South Carolina; grandchildren, Emily Scott (Jeremy) of Ashland, Ohio, Joseph Schramm of Mansfield, Ohio, Bekky Schramm of Columbus, Ohio, USMC Sgt. John Schramm (Erin) of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Justin Hotaling of Campobello, South Carolina, Patricia McMillan (Richard) of Winder, Georgia; great-grandchildren Jacob Scott, Giselle Rose and Jack Schramm, and Asheley and Tori McMillan; and two sisters, Olga Ersek and Gabriella Benyats (Lajos) of Gyor, Hungary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Schramm, in 2004 and a sister, Babi.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 9 at 6:00 pm at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland. Friends may call from 5:30 - 6:00 pm.
