
Samuel Milton Au, age 62, died suddenly at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina, Wednesday, January 3, 2007. He was born January 29, 1944 in Mansfield, Ohio to Samuel G. Au and Jane Pasheilich Au. Sam graduated from Madison High School in 1962 where he was a member of the varsity basketball and tennis teams for three years. During the Vietnam War, he served as an APC Commander with the U.S. Army. In 1969, while in Vietnam, he received the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal for rescuing several crewmen from a burning APC during hostile enemy fire. Following the war, Sam lived and worked in Boulder Colorado, San Francisco, California and Mansfield prior to moving to North Carolina in 2000. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie, sports car races, music and reading.
He is survived by his mother, Jane Au of Raleigh, North Carolina; a son, Samuel Au of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Traci Au Hogue of Newark, Ohio; a grandson, Maxwell Hogue of Newark; his sister, Sandra Au Stoy of Wake Forest, North Carolina; and his brother, Dennis Au, of Camas, Washington; as well as many family members and friends in Ohio and North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Milton Au and Viva Flowers Au, Louis Pasheilich and Mary Schadek Pasheilich, his Father Samuel G Au and his brother Larry Au. He will be greatly missed by all.
Friends may call Wednesday evening, January 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. A service celebrating Sam's life will be held at the funeral home Thursday, January 11, at 11a.m. Burial will follow at the Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.
