
Sherman C. Henry, 81, died September 10, 2007 after a long illness. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones at the home of his nephew and niece-in-law, David and Rebecca Baumberger in Pavonia. He was born in Weller Township on the family farm November 11, 1925 to Charles S. Henry and Mary Voll Henry and lived on the farm his entire life. He was a graduate of Union Schools. Sherman was a veteran of World War II, drove school bus many years for both the Union and Crestview School Districts. He also worked at the Richland County Soil and Water Conservation Department before serving as a Weller Township Trustee. He retired as Road Superintendent for Weller Township and from full-time farming. He was a member of the Pavonia Cemetery Board. Outside of work, Sherman enjoyed helping with Boy Scout Troop 508, serving as the Scout Master for several years. He volunteered much of his time to the Crestview Athletic Department and was head of the football chain gang since the school's football program was first founded. His hobbies included fishing on Lake Erie with family and friends and attending all Crestview School sporting events home or away. He was well known throughout the community as a hard working Good Samaritan who was always willing to help others with whatever their needs may have been.
He is survived by three sisters, Esther Boyce of New Middleton, Virginia Baumberger and Joan Blake Kirsch, all of Mansfield; nephews, David Rebecca Baumberger, Don Irene Boebel, Gilbert Lucille Boebel, Darrell Angela Kirsch, Steve Lily Kirsch, all of Mansfield, Tim Rei Boyce of Millbrook, AL, Mike Teresa Boyce of New Middleton; nieces, Mary Ann Bruce Bell of Louisville, KY, Diane Baker of Mansfield, Priscilla Blanchard of Kent, Shelly Boyce of Columbus and Brenda Ken Ellenberger of Northfield; great nephew, Jason Sherman Baumberger of Mansfield; great niece, April Baumberger of Mansfield; many other great and great-great nephews and nieces; and special friends, Phil and Terry Perry, Bill and Joan Remy, Dave and Karen Henry and Les and Peggy Frontz. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Jane Boebel and Frances Henry, and three brothers-in-law, Leonard Boebel, James Boyce, Dale Baumberger.
Friends may call Wednesday, September 12 from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Funeral services conducted by Pastor Gloria Loughman will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with additional visitation from 9-10 a.m. Burial will follow in Pavonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crestview Athletic Boosters.
