

Born November 9, 1948, in Wichita, Kansas, he was the only son of the late Paul and Dorothy (Kleinegger) Mies. He graduated from Galion High School in 1966 where he played football and was honored as an All NOL guard. Tom joined the Army in 1969 and served in country during the Vietnam War with the 101st Airborne Division, earning a marksman medal during his years of service.
Tom married Peggy Taylor in 1973 and they shared 52 years of adventure and love. He owned and operated his used car business, “Mies Motors” and was a true car enthusiast. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion. Tom was a member of the Army Navy Garrison, VFW and American Legion, continually supporting those who sacrifice for their country. In his free time, he enjoyed boating, fishing, and golf with his family and friends. Most of all, Tom adored his grandchildren, and they were bright lights in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Mies; three sons, Colbey (Karri) Mies, Rudy (Bailey) Mies and Gibson (Lindsay) Mies; seven grandchildren, Claire, Emma, Gabby, Anna, Lilly, Cody and Chasity Mies; five sisters, Paulette Wolf, Jeralyn Predmore, Mary Poffenbaugh, Lori Kocher and Angie Humberson; and many cherished family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a nephew, Zachary Predmore.
There will be no visitation or service observed. If so desired, memorial contributions in Tom’s honor may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 N. Liberty St., Galion, Ohio 44833.
