Timothy L. Hanshaw, 44, of Shelby, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, May 12, 2016, doing what he loved, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was born May 5, 1972, in Mansfield, Ohio, and grew up in the Adario-Shiloh area.
He worked at Phillips Manufacturing for 25 years, beginning his career as a Welder and moving up to Master Tube Mill Operator. Tim had never missed a day of work, including in the past 6 years when he had become ill. He was a hard worker and his hands were never at rest. If he wasn't working at his welding job, he was working on another project. Anything with an engine was fair game and he was either riding it or fixing it. His favorite pastime was riding his treasured Harley Davidson. Tim enjoyed riding all over the state of Ohio taking many trips with the American Legion Riders and "Ride and Grab" was his favorite. He was a long time member of Shelby American Legion Post #326.
On the outside he may have appeared gruff or even intimidating, but he was truly a tender-hearted, gentle man. He was a jokester who loved to have fun and experience life to the fullest. Known affectionately as "Bearded Monster", "Frito Man" or "Hacksaw", basically anything but Tim, he was a true friend to everyone. Tim would do anything and everything possible to help out others. Their needs always came before his own. He lovingly harassed those he cared about - if Tim gave you a nickname you knew you were extra special to him. On July 22, 2000, he married Tiffanie Danals and they shared a wonderful life together. He was fiercely devoted to his wife and children.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of nearly 16 years, Tiffanie Hanshaw; children, Mikayla Hanshaw (Coby Lapene) of Galion, Timothy Hunter Hanshaw and Hollee Hanshaw, both of Shelby; granddaughter, Adalynn Lapene; mother and step-father, Marsha and Robert Palm of Shiloh; father, Timothy A. Hanshaw of Mansfield; siblings, Scott (Rose) Hanshaw of Greenwich, Meredith Hanshaw of Shelby and Michelle (Mike) Lybarger of Mansfield; grandfather, Richard Hoffman; nieces and nephews, Robert, Adam, Heath, Heather and Brandon Hanshaw, Riley Hicks, Trevor Phelps, Chloe Danals and Logan Daugherty.
Tim is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alicia and Carl Goodyear; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Tim (Renate) Danals, Jenni (Jeff) Daugherty and Kevin (Sarah) Danals; aunt, Connie Hanshaw; uncle, Roger Hanshaw; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Andy Hanshaw; grandparents, Andy and Mabel Hanshaw, Bob and Ann Fidler and Mary Hoffman; and an uncle, Gary Fidler.
The family will receive friends from 1-5 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd. The funeral service will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park with a final tribute escort by American Legion Riders of Post #326. If you have a bike, ride it that day in memory of Tim. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cleveland Clinic, Mullen Center.
