Tony graduated from Goshen High School in Goshen, Ohio in 1982. He later graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1984, moving to Lexington in 1993. He worked at Burger King for 25 years as a manager and training manager winning many awards throughout the years for his leadership. Family was extremely important to Tony, he even had nicknames for all his nieces and nephews. Tony knew no stranger or enemy and would help anyone in need, always the nicest guy, the smile in the room, and the life of any party.
Tony loved The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals. He enjoyed working in the yard, being outside and spending time in the summer at Hilton Head Island. He and his wife Carol enjoyed frequent game nights, dinner dates, and bringing in each new year with the Scheibers. He also enjoyed spending the evening watching sports, playing cards and just hanging out with the neighborhood guys, of course with a Mountain Dew in hand.
Tony's favorite thing in the world was to see his two girls happy. The three musketeers did everything together including game nights, many vacations, going to his daughter, Danielle's events at Lexington and Heidelberg and anything in between. Tony's daughter was his world and he wanted everyone to know how proud he was of her.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Carol (Poorman) Merritt whom he met in Toledo; daddy's little girl, his daughter, Danielle (Merritt) Hogan and her husband, Chris of Delaware; his grand-dog, Brogan; his father, Curtis Merritt of Goshen; a sister, Vicky Merritt of Lexington; father-in-law, Phil Poorman; in-laws, Vicky and Chris Zeigler and Patty and Dale Banton; nieces and nephews, Libby, Matt, Samantha, Nick and Bella; other extended family and a large circle of good friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Merritt; a sister, Ersie Carter; and his mother-in-law, Janet Poorman.
