
Verlin L. Day, Sr., 75, of Mansfield, passed away on, Sunday, July 4, 2010 after an extended illness. He was born September 21, 1934 in Olive Hill, Ky. After moving to the Mansfield area in 1944, Verlin graduated from the Ontario High School and went on to serve his country in the U. S. Army in 1954 as a member of the 503rd Rock Airborn Infantry Regiment. He had worked for Dominion Electric for many years and went on to retire from Crane Plumbing. Gardening, fishing, woodworking and painting cars is where he spent much of his free time, however, spending time with his family was especially important to him.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law Verlin Jr. Linda Day and daughter and son-in-law Carole Ernie Berentz; grandchildren Jessica, Jennifer, Jacolyn, Dustin and Danielle; great grandchildren, Jake, Kyle, Tyler, Adison and Alec; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis Lloyd Grogg; nephews, Ronnie and Larry and numerous other nieces and nephews. Verlin was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Day on November 4, 2003 and his mother Atha Troop on May 31, 2004.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street home of Wappner Funeral Directors Tuesday, July 6, 2010, from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30pm at the funeral home by Rev. Christopher Thomas. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Detail.
