
W. Russell McCullough, age 88, of 94 Shaffner Blvd., died Tuesday, December 13, 2005. Mr. McCullough was born January 24, 1917, in Mansfield, Ohio, living here all of his life. He was a clerk in the Mansfield Post Office from 1935 to 1937 before joining the Richland Trust Company where he advanced to Vice President, Treasurer and Controller holding this title until his retirement in 1981 after 44 years of service. Mr. McCullough was a graduate of Madison High School in 1935 with highest honors. He also attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. Mr. McCullough was a member of First English Lutheran Church where he had been an active member since his youth serving as General Superintendent of the Sunday school, and past president of Luther League of Ohio. He was a life member and treasurer of the Advisory Board of the Mansfield Salvation Army since 1959 and received the William Bouth Award, treasurer since 1962 of the Mansfield Cemetery Association, past secretary-treasurer of the North Lake Park Association, past presiding officer and secretary of the Junior Order United American Mechanics, a past president of the Noon Optimist Club, past president of Richland County American Cancer Society, secretary of the Mansfield Retmen's Club, treasurer of the Richland County Republican Committee for ten years. He was a member of the following Masonic organizations: Worshipful Master in Frank Marquis Lodge #690, of which he is currently a member; charter member and secretary from 1961 to 1990 for the Charles Hoffman Lodge #767, president of the State Secretaries Association of Ohio; past high priest of Royal Arch Mason in Mansfield Chapter #28; past illustrious master of Mansfield Council #94; past commander and recorder of Mansfield Commandry #21; Knights of York Cross Honour Eminent prior of Ohio Priory #18, achieving status as a 50-year member in the York Rite Cross of Honour; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Canton; past president of Mansfield Shrine Club and Al Koran Shrine; Western Reserve Council #59, Philalethes Society, Grand College of Rites, Mohican Council #134 serving as secretary from 1978 to 1990; Naomi Shrine # 10 White Shrine of Jerusalem, Watchman of Shepherds, Royal Court #42 Order of Amaranth; Royal Patron , Ruth Chapter Order of Eastern Star; president-secretary of Mansfield York Rite Association; trustee of Mansfield Masonic Temple Company; president of the Mansfield Masonic Death Benefit Association; Knight Masons of Ireland; Mansfield Hi-Twelve Club; and the Canton Masonic Relief Association.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth, of Mansfield; a daughter, Miriam Louise Miles of Tucson, Arizona; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul Duane McCullough and Cheryl of Stockbridge, Georgia; a step-daughter and husband, Barbara and Hubert Reed of Mansfield; three grandchildren, Robert W. Miles, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona, Scott Miles and wife Kelli of Huntington Beach, California, and Stacy Lynn Swenney and husband Kevin of Newnan, Georgia; step-grandchildren, Amanda and husband Dan Steele of Mansfield; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Miles, Ashlee Miles, Colin Swenney; two step-great-grandchildren, Steven and Miranda Steele; a brother, Robert B. McCullough and wife Grace Boyer of Tucson, Arizona; sister-in-law Lois McCullough of Mansfield; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold F. and Minnie E. Houston McCullough, his wife, Eleanor M. Carver McCullough whom he married June 20, 1943, and a brother, Harry H. McCullough.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, December 15 with Masonic services at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the First English Lutheran Church, Mansfield, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the First English Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or the Mansfield Salvation Army.
