On Wednesday, June 24, 2015, William Ward Dettmer, affectionately known as "Mr. Bill", left his house and went home to be with his Lord after 73 blessed years. Bill began his journey of life in Pennsylvania on July 1, 1941, being welcomed by his late parents, Robert Cyrus and Bessie Mae (Crosby) Dettmer.
Eighteen years later, on June 18, 1960, Bill married his lifelong sweetheart, Mary Louise (Bolster) Dettmer. Along with his wife of 55 blessed years, most grateful for their faithful commitment are their children, Bill Jr. (Pat) Dettmer, Donna (Tom) Auflick, Joanne (Randall) Morris, Mark (Ann) Dettmer, Andrew (Danielle) Dettmer; and his grandchildren Ryan, Aaron, Hannah, Brock, Kylee, Caleb, Kaiden, Adrianna and David. Also grateful for his life are his brother, Harold (Joann) Dettmer; sister-in- law, Sylvia Dettmer; brother-in-law, Paul (Val) Bolster; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends. Bill was preceded to heaven by his brother, Robert Dettmer and sister-in-law, Phyllis Cosselman.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. A service celebrating Bill's life will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at 10:30 a.m in the funeral home with additional visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Bill was a simple man who would want his life to say to the world, “Serving Christ is worth it all”.
