

William C. Strome of Mansfield passed away on Friday September 15, 2017 in OhioHealth Med Central Hospital at the age of 95. He had been in failing health for the past five years.Born in Bradford, Pa on August 9, 1922 to Guy C. and Millie (Lint) Strome.
Bill was a 1940 graduate of Lexington High School. As he was just starting to be in the workforce, he found himself to be in the Army stationed in Central Europe. As a heavy equipment driver, he earned the American Theater Ribbon, the EAME Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal World War II and Meritorius Unit Award. While stationed in Austria, he met Wilhelmine (Mimi) Horacek and they were later married on May 7, 1947 in Harrisburg, PA. They celebrated 67 years of marriage until her death on August 27, 2014. A forty year employee of Commercial Motor Freight in Mansfield, Bill was hardworking and dedicated to his family. His hobby was his family and his free time was spent wherever family events took him.
He is survived by three children: Christine (Tim) Park of Mansfield, William (Judy) Strome of Loveland, OH and Betsy (Tim Hill) Strome of Oakland, CA.; grandchildren, Billy Park and Samantha Strome; and step-grandchild, Stacy Turman; He is also survived by his brother Roger (Faye) Strome from Racine, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray and Clifford Strome, and two sisters, Avilee D. Shaffer and Ruth A. Kochheiser.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Additional visitation will be held Thursday from 8:45-9:45 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a graveside service at 10:00 a.m. in Mansfield Memorial Park conducted by Rev. George Reece. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad and the U.S. Army.
