

Sylvia (Sis) May Sullivan, age 95, died of natural causes on January 26, 2020 in Marana, AZ. Sylvia was born December 18, 1924 to Perry and Eva Stevens in Kawkawlin, MI. During WWII, with her family now in Detroit, she contributed to the war effort by working in a factory that made aluminum turrets for airplanes. Yes, she was the family’s own “Rosie the Riveter”. After the war Sylvia socialized at The Grande Ballroom on Grand River. Here, she met a handsome recently discharged soldier, Gerald (Jerry) Sullivan. They were married September 13, 1947 at St Agnes in the LaSalle Park neighborhood of Detroit, MI.
Sis and Jerry were married for 44 years and lived their lives in Detroit, Waterford and Levering, Michigan. They raised a family of six with Sylvia a stay at home mother. Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved, Gerald in 1991 and her son Steven Sullivan in 2018. She is survived by sons, Timothy (Debbie) Sullivan, Marana, AZ; Patrick Sullivan, Tucson, AZ; Michael (Denise) Sullivan, Clarkston, MI; James Sullivan, Marana, AZ and a daughter, Christine Marsh, Essexville, MI. Sylvia was blessed with nine loving grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Sis deeply loved her extended family. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and two of her ten siblings; Jeneva Lozen and Diane Jeske of Michigan.
Sylvia will be laid to rest in St Clements Cemetery, Pellston, MI later this year. Family and friends will be notified when a memorial mass is scheduled.
