Carole Wood, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at her home on September 11. She was 81. Born in Richland Center, Wisconsin, Carole grew up in a small midwestern town and was blessed to meet the love of her life, Dr. James Doyle Wood, a native Texan, in Chicago in the early 1970s. Not long after, the two were wed and moved back to Texas.
Together in 1973, they founded Balcones Animal Hospital, a family owned veterinary clinic in northwest Austin. She was an integral part of founding the business that still serves Austin animal owners to this day. At the time, northwest Austin was predominantly ranch land and Carole watched Austin grow up around her. In 1999 Carole and Doyle moved back home to Spicewood, Doyle’s hometown, where they have lived ever since.
Carole was a wonderfully loving mother and grandmother who was always there when she was needed and would always tell it like it was. She loved to travel and experience new places, taking her family on adventures to Chile, Egypt, Austria and beyond. But she always made sure to be home for Christmas, her favorite time of year. Her family will forever remember her for her Christmas Eve gatherings. It was a time that she deeply cherished and the entire family looked forward to all year.
Carole was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori King. She is survived by her husband James D. Wood; daughter Shari Eno and husband Paul, son Dr. Jason Wood and wife Rebecca; grandchildren Danielle Silva and husband Jeff, Gabrielle Silva, Zane Covar, CJ Eno, Jaxon Wood and Shaylee Wood; great grandchildren Maya, Weston and Coen Prachyl.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday September 13 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 14 at 10:00 am at the Haynie Flat Cemetery in Spicewood. Friends and family are invited to a brunch reception immediately following at Shari and Paul’s house.
