Charles Parker

Charles Lloyd Parker was born in Brownsville, Texas on October 1, 1925 and died on April 19, 2011. His parents were Rachel Cavazos and Fred William Parker. He was preceded in death by his twin brother Larry and a younger brother Carlisle.

Lloyd graduated from Raymondville High School in 1943. He was all-district in football for three years, played basketball, won state championship in 200 yard low hurdles in 1943 (this tied the national record), and won district singles in tennis. He played first string half-back for SMU in 1943. He joined the Navy and won Southwest Conference in track at Rice University and played half-back for Navy under the leadership of Paul Brown. After the war, he played another year of football for SMU and two years for Trinity University. He earned a B.S. degree from Trinity University and a M.S. degree in 1953 from Baylor University. He was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame in 1995 and into the High School Coaches Hall of Honor in 1997. He coached football and track at Trinity University for two years and coached eleven years in Brownsville and nine years in Texas City.

Survivors include his wife Julia of Meadowlakes, Texas, daughter Michelle Howles of Crockett, Texas, step-daughter Cherie Carrabba of Crockett, Texas, step-son John Armour and wife Denise of Lubbock, Texas and step-daughter Jill Armour of Pearland, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan Rash, Ali Armour and McKenna Armour, niece Patsy Duck and nephews Steve Parker and wife Debbie and Brady Parker and wife Stacy and many cousins and friends.

Graveside service was held at Clines Prairie Cemetery in Huntsville, Texas on Thursday, April 21, 2011. A memorial service will be held at the Church at Horseshoe Bay on May 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM.
