

Douglas “Joe” Stephens, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on January 6, 2025, in Marble Falls, Texas. Born on March 9, 1952, in Rockdale, Texas, Joe was the cherished son of Dalton Ray Stephens and Lou Ella Davenport.
It’s difficult to put into words the impact Joe had on the lives of those who knew and loved him. A man of extraordinary talent and passion, Joe had a deep love for his community and music. From Stephens Roofing to being the founder of the band Country Connection, he was very compassionate about helping his community and bringing joy to audiences across the Texas Hill Country. For Joe, music was not just a calling but a way of life. Many would say, “Joe was born with a guitar in his hand.” He found immense happiness in singing, dancing, and sharing his love of music with the world.
Throughout his life, Joe wore many hats. He served as an investigator and reserve deputy for Williamson County and successfully ran multiple businesses. He was known for his honesty, hard work, and unwavering commitment to helping others. His bravery and selflessness were exemplified in 1985 when he rescued a woman from a burning car in Austin, Texas, an act of heroism recognized by the Mayor of Austin, the Governor of Texas, and the President of the United States.
Joe’s love extended beyond people to his four-legged companions. His beloved pup, Tooter, and dogs, Thelma and Louise, brought him endless joy and companionship.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton Ray Stephens and Lou Ella Davenport, and his two brothers, Dee Stephens and Jack Stephens.
Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and music. He is survived by his three daughters, Tracy, Kathy, and Megan, as well as eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
Joe’s life was one of laughter, music, courage, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
