Horace graduated in 1966 from Burnet High School where he played football and basketball. His hobbies included bowling, baseball, softball, pool and horseback riding. His first job was as a welder.
He married the love of his life, Velma Hunter on October 19, 1971 and they celebrated 48 years of marriage.
He retired from Ingram Ready-Mix after 45 years, where he had many roles, but spent most of his years driving trucks (his truck was named Leaping John). If he wasn't at work, you could find him at church or spending time with his family. Horace loved to play dominoes. He would say “10 stitches in your britches” and he loved to fix cars.
Horace loved to go to the nursing home where he would sing, pray and do bible study. He was a member of St. Frederick Baptist Church, where he loved Sunday School. He drove the bus for vacation bible school. Michelle, Wayne and Horace, III were always the first on the bus “The door would open and that meant get in!”
Horace was a people person, always thinking about everyone. He never judged and always made you feel welcome and loved.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Velma, his children, Yolanda Barton, Dewayne Barton (Lacritia), Horace Barton, III, his siblings, Mary Brooks (John), Doris Aldridge, George Barton (Angelica), Charles Fisher, Ronnie Barton and Jarrard Barton (Antoinette), his grandchildren, Kiahna, Mason, Koby and Mia, as well is many other family members and loved ones.
Horace always said: “Turn off the light, it was off when you got in there”, “Don’t slam my door”, and “Stop crying or I will give you something to cry about”.
You will be missed dearly and your memories are the best.
