James Rodney Blackmon

James Blackmon was a loving husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed many happy family gatherings including holidays at their home and lake house in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

Jim was born in Altus, Oklahoma, March 22, 1929. His family moved to Enid, Oklahoma in 1943, where he graduated from Enid High School in 1947.

Jim then joined the US Army and served in the 2nd Infantry Division during the Korean war. After his discharge from the Army in 1951, Jim moved to Wichita, Kansas where he met and married his only love and wife, Mimi.

Jim worked while also attending Wichita University. Jim and Mimi later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Jim finished his education in Accounting at Tulsa University. While living in Tulsa, Jim and Mimi were blessed with a set of twins, Stephanie and Stephen Blackmon.

The next move was a short stay in Dallas, Texas and then on to Midland, Texas, to join in the start-up of a new oil & gas company which became successful and was later sold to Houston Natural Gas and became known as HNG Oil Company where Jim retired as Financial Vice President in 1975.

Jim then joined a small group of independent oil & gas producers where he was active in the oil & gas business until 1989 when he and Mimi sold their Midland and Lake LBJ homes and built a permanent home on Lake LBJ on the Cape at Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, George & Thelma Blackmon, his brother, George, his sister, Margory, half-brother Charles, and his loving wife Mimi, whom he was married to for 72 years.

Jim is survived by his son Stephen Blackmon of Houston, Texas, daughter Stephanie Rogers and Alvin Collins of Midland, Texas, grandchildren Jennifer Jill (JJ), Todd and wife Janai, Scott and wife Cheyenne Rogers all of Midland, Texas, Ross and wife Chelsea Blackmon of Dallas, Texas, and great grandchildren Henley, Brody and Owen Rogers of Midland, Texas and Cambree and Brooks Blackmon of Dallas, Texas.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
